Thanks to some patience, some new approaches and some encouraging words from a blogging friend, things are looking up in the potty training department. I had to Dr. Phil myself a little and ask, "how's that workin' for ya'?" What we were doing wasn't so I've tried some new things in the last couple of days.
First, Jack gets a sticker on a chart every time he pees in the potty. When he fills up his little chart (5 one day, 6 the next) he gets to pick a little prize. He has chosen a little tub of play-doh, some Bob the Builder stickers and a truck pencil. So far this has worked pretty well. He has had a couple of accidents, but only one each day. So that is a big improvement.
Another thing that has worked is I am letting him do as much by himself as I can. I was thinking, he doesn't go by himself because he has no reason to. I do everything for him and then tap my foot while he does the one thing I can't do (pee for him). I thought it was just easier, but really, the goal is for him to be completely independent, so that includes pants up and down and changing his own clothes when he has an accident. Once he goes in the bathroom, I will just walk out and let him handle his business. He was really reluctant at first, but he seems to be doing really well.
So, we're getting somewhere. At least things are different. And maybe a little better. And, fingers-crossed, he'll enter preschool in the fall potty-trained.

I'm so glad that things are getting better!!! what a difference from a week ago.
Those are great ideas--I'm making a mental note for our upcoming toilet-training adventures.
So great that there's improvement! Sometimes you have to keep in mind that you might not really be helping them by helping them. You can help them much more by not helping! (Sounds confusing, but it really does make sense.)
Sounds really good! I'm going to use some of those ideas for Abby, she's not really making headway in the potty training department, she's even gotten better at hiding so that we don't run her to the potty when we catch her making serious business faces...

Yeah!!!!! It sounds like it really is going better! I am so happy for all of you!
