Back Into Best Shots

I have been shooting for the last couple of days with a 50 mm 1.4 lens. It is in fact the most delicious, depthy, coolest lens I have ever used. The wide open aperture has allowed me to take indoor photos with no flash and have them actually come out! The problem with my experimentation is that for the lens to auto-focus I am using my dad's D80. The D80 is a wonderful piece of equipment, but it makes me feel like I am right back at the beginning of my photography education with all the buttons and cryptic symbols. With my own, D40x, I can very quickly switch ISO speed, white balance setting, or focus area with the click of just a few buttons. If something doesn't come out right in the first shot, I can adjust my settings and keep on shooting. So, I'm working on learning the camera almost more than the lens! I don't think the lens would need any help...it just about takes incredibly deep photos on its own.

oooh, I'm jealous of the lens and camera! Can't wait to get a dslr myself.

Love the photo--that expression is just so adorable!

She is so cute - so into her princesses. My daughter has that shirt... it's one of my favorites.

Nice to see you posting again! I have the 50mm 1.8 and I LOVE it. That's pretty much the only lens I use. My camera's the D80, and I hadn't realized there's so much difference in steup between it and D40. Looks like you're doing well!

I love her toys, what a sweet shot. I didn't get mine up today. Just one of those days I guess.

Hi there! You are lucky to have a D80 to borrow! I also have a D40x and recently got the same lens but I have to manually focus!! It's crazy! Speacially with a little boy running around everywhere! It doesn't matter though, the lens is sooo amazing and takes such great pictures that it's totally worth it! I agree with you, great pictures just with adding the lens!
